It is with great sadness that Max Bitel Greene announces the death of its founder and long-term senior partner Max Bitel at the age of 88, one of the country’s longest serving solicitors.

Although he had acted as a consultant for a number of years, Max Bitel was still very active in the firm and held a practising certificate until his death.
He started his articles in 1939 but his studies were interrupted by the Second World War in which he served with distinction in North Africa and Italy, latterly in the Intelligence Corp putting to good use his linguistic skills. He was fluent in French, German and Italian and took up learning Spanish at the age of 65.
After the War he returned to the profession, qualifying as a solicitor in February 1948 and founding the firm in 1954. He was extremely well regarded in the profession and was involved in a number of leading cases including Faridian v. General Medical Council [1971] A.C. 995 and Bahai v. Rashidian [1985] 3 All E.R. 385.
He is survived by his daughter, Judi and son Nick who is the current senior partner of this firm and Chief Executive of the London Marathon.
